So yesterday was a pretty good day... kinda like the old ice cube song. I met up with P.SO and we went to the Sosa's studio in queens for an afternoon of editing and working on diff. things. P.SO had a quick show during Scott from The Soundmen's set over at Delancey... on Delancey.. :'/
On the way to the city we started to rehearse a couple of songs from P.SO's set. Here's a quick preview of us wildNout (nick cannon ur wack) in the car to Jungle... I'm calling it Jungle Car!

P.SO "Almost Home" Music Video

So finally we have the music video out!

The way this one came about was kind of a spur of the moment type of thing. P.SO and I have been in talks for a few months now since last year for us to collab on a music video. We came up with a couple of ideas for songs from his debut album "For Your Consideration" and his 2009 mixtape "Earthtones". This was in the fall of 2009. We both felt that it would be best to put together a music video for a project that would be coming out in 2010. So we settled on doing something from his new EP "Moontones", a remix project he did with The Soundmen.

He played a couple of joints at my house from Moontones a couple months back. I really wanted to shoot a video for "Incredible Remix", but I knew it would probably not happen since it's a remix from a Mickey Factz joint.
Then I said, "The Jungle" with Von Pea from Tanya Morgan would also be ill. The fellas from TM would be touring in Feb and March and would spearhead the promotion for Donwill's new album "Tanya Morgan presents Donwill as Don Cusak in High Fidelity". I knew that Jungle would not work out as a first video from Moontones.

Then P.SO sent me the tittle track Moontones. I liked the song but he told me that he already had promised that video to another dir. Since him and I are in talks of shooting something from 8thw1 & P.SO's new project "Suicide by Jellyfish", I felt that the easiest and most convenient thing would be to shoot "Almost Home". Since it's the first track we hear on Moontones and it would be the first music video from the EP, I felt this was the strongest candidate for us to shoot a music video for.

That week in Feb. 2010 NYC had a snow blizzard. The way that I work to get creative to come up with music video concepts is to listen to the track over and over and brainstorm ideas. The snow was such an eminent factor that it's all I saw out the window... and then it hit me. The following day I called P.SO and asked it he could come thru after work so we could shoot the video. He said, "in the snow?" I said "Yuupp!!"... he said... "YESS!!!"... the rest is history!

Rjd2 Live @ Jerky's in Providence, RI (3-9-10)

A couple of days ago I was out of town. I left Brooklyn to go back home to RI for my nephew's bday party. It was also my bday week, so I decided to spend it with my fam. I had won tickets to see Rjd2 at Williamsburg Music Hall thru twitter. I guess some winner never claimed his win, and since I had also RT'ed Rj hooked me up with tickets. I was a little bummed when I realized I wasn't going to be in BK when Rj was playing. I reached out to him and he was kind enough to switch my tickets to a later show in Providence, RI. Since I would be there, it worked out perfectly!
I took my little Kodak Zi8 HD cam to the show and recorded a couple of joints. For those of you not familiar with Rjd2's sound, peep the following clips. Enjoy!!

"One Won't Do" J Dilla Tribute in Brooklyn, NY (Feb. 5th, 2010)

So last week after going to the Bronx Museum J Dilla event, I went back to Billysburg in Brooklyn to North 4th bar where Jessica Estevez aka iHeartDilla was holding an event with some other folks. I took my camera there and recorded some performances. There was way too many people on the bill, so I'll only be able to upload some of them. Here's a couple for now, starting with a surprise cameo from Ma Dukes...

John Robinson @ BX Museum (J Dilla Tribute)

Last week I attended the J Dilla Tribute shows in New York City. The first was up in the Bronx. John Robinson aka Lil Sci from Science of Life was on the bill to perform. I divided the footage into three parts so it wasn't one long 15 min clip.
First up he speaks a bit on the situation in Haiti, and then goes on to perform what seems to me like either a freestyle or verses from a song.
Then on the second clip, he performs "Mascot" from his 2008 album I Am Not For Sale. Then he goes on to perform "Black Gold" his 2009 album (w/ MF DOOM) Who Is This Man?
On the third clip he takes us out with "Always Bless" from The Leak Edition vol. 1. (2007)
Enjoy!

Beats from BLAP

I wanted to put up this video I released last week from !llmind's celebrity BLAP event that went down in Brooklyn a few days ago. Checkout this video where it showcases music producers such as: Statik Selektah, Digga & !llmind to name a few blessing us with their music.

The way I came to record this event was simple. I was in the Bronx in the studio with Fresh Daily recording his recording session when he told me about the event. Me being a fan of !llminds music agreed to go and shoot some footage. There were a lot of up and coming as well as established artists in the building. In this video you can see in the background Von Pea and Don Will from my favorite group Tanya Morgan. Joe Scudda from the Hall Of Justus was also in attendance... plus many soon to be known names.

Peep the footage, it's about 10 min. long and showcases some great music, as well as funny bits making this clip feel almost documentary like.

Intro

Hello world,

I wanted to create this page to have a place where I can put all of my films so it's easy to find stuff created by me. Here's a couple of things you may, or may not know about me...

In 2004, I graduated from the New York Film Academy. Currently I produce content for my company NicaBia Productions. I've created content with my company since 2003, in different fields such as video games, music, sports and film. As the time goes by, I will post older content that's either already out on the web, or has never been released.
I want this to be the page that has all of my work, and easy to find. In this post I will present 2 music videos that I put together last year... first up... Fresh Daily...

Last year, I created my first music video "Apollo 13" for Brooklyn emcee Fresh Daily. It was really great to work with him on this project. The way it came about was pretty simple.
I had seen Fresh around the New York Hip Hop scene for a couple of years now. I remember at first he was just a normal concert goer, and he always stood out to me (mostly 'cause of his "Fresh" gear). He would always have a certain look that made him stand out, in what ever place he was in.
Fast forward to the summer of 2009. I attended the after party that Brooklyn bodega held at South Paw for the BK Hip Hop festival. I saw Fresh there and approached him regarding shooting a music video. We exchanged info, and quickly began to work on a concept.

We shot it on 3 different occasions. First, we shot some stuff at his old apartment alongside Benamin (Producer of the song). In late July I had to fly out to CA for a couple of weeks, but resumed production in mid Aug. The second day we shot at this bar called Bob's in NYC. Lots of people came thru to show support for the project. The third day was really only a half day. Woke up early to go shoot at the bridge. A couple of hours later we had wrapped up the video. It took me about 2 to 3 weeks to edit.

The video dropped on Saturday Sept. 19th. I'll never forget this date, because it was the day that legendary DJ Roc Raida passed away. I had finished the video and wanted to upload it to the High Water youtube page to see how it looked online. It wasn't going to officially drop until Monday. Little did I know that the video wasn't locked, and within minutes 2dopeboys.com already had it on their site featured. A little while after that nahright.com scooped it up and that version ended up staying live. Even though I had to make a couple of minor changes, I decided to leave it live so Fresh didn't lose out on pv's (page views). It was a great experience to work with him, and I'm really proud of the final product.

Then on November 19th 2009 I released my second music video. This time with Columbus emcee ZeroStar from Weightless records. The way I got to work with Zero was from me knowing Blueprint (Rhymesayers) and the website weightless.net that I sometimes frequent its forums. For a couple of years now I have enjoyed Zero's music. Always wanted to work with him when he released his 1st LP "Forever Never Really That Long" but never got the chance since I lived in NY and he was in OH.

I also record video game tournaments held from the shoryuken.com community. In October I had to record a tournament that was being held in Columbus for my next video game documentary. I then decided to hit up Zero to work on a music video. I stayed an extra day once I was done shooting my documentary footage, and shot "Intro (Everybody)" with ZeroStar.

On that day Zero picked me up and we went to his house to shoot some indoor scenes. The concept was very simple. Since we didn't have the time to really plan out something that would take a couple of days to shoot, we opted to just shoot the whole thing in the span of a few hours. Then the concept of let's introduce you to the audience with a simple look into your ordinary life came about. Since the song itself is one long verse we felt this would work, just have one long theme visually.

After shooting some stuff at his house, we drove around taking shots of the city. We stopped by a local mural from Columbus Hip Hop legend Daymon Dodson. I briefly got to know Daymon "SoWhat" from my early days on the weightless.net forums. We had plenty of conversations over AIM but I never got the chance to meet him in person. I thank you for your great spirit and putting me on to some great stuff like Pete Rock's group The UN, and all the rare J Dilla stuff that I know cherish like gold!

We also shot at the local music spots "Skully's" and "Magnolia Thuderpussy". Special thanks go out to Wes Flexner for hooking it up with the location. We wanted to get some shots with Blueprint and make sure he had a cameo, but unfortunately had the Flu and couldn't leave the house that day. Shot outs go out to Print, for all his support thru out the years. I also have to mention Tony "Envelope" for being a really cool dude. Great meeting you my dude!

I love the way this video came about, and my experiences while in Columbus. I got a chance to meet some great people that before had only been handles and avatars on a computer. I can't wait to go back to the Bus!

Hope you've enjoyed my work, more will be coming soon!
